Foot care items are used to help keep a good hygiene routine for the feet and also for any support needs. Items found in this category include ankle supports, foot powders, insoles, and others. As each of us may have different concerns with our feet, knowing how to address these with the appropriate foot care products will help you take care of any issues quickly.
Our feet go through a lot day in and day out. We use them to get to our destination, and with each step, our bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments work together to provide us that motion. Unfortunately, a lot of us are not aware or do not even think about taking care of our feet. Healthy feet, like any other part of our body, will result in an overall healthier disposition.
5 Tips to Healthier Feet
The health of our feet can be used as an indicator for our general health, so having practices that promote a good foot care routine should be a part of our health and wellness plans. Here are five tips towards happy feet:
-
Make sure shoes fit right
Shoes must feel comfortable for the feet to wear. If they hurt your feet, that might mean that they aren’t good for you in the long run. Wearing shoes that are too tight may distort the shape of your toes and can cause painful foot growths or worsen any existing conditions. Try to change up your shoes every day as well. Give your shoes time to air out to prevent any odor and infection. Also, try to wear shoe styles that offer some kind of arch or ankle support.
-
Refrain from walking barefoot
Walking barefoot puts tremendous amounts of stress on our feet and the rest of our body. It’s the same effect when we wear shoes with no arch or ankle support, like flip flops. Apart from this, walking barefoot can lead to fungal infections, especially if we do it in public areas. Be cognizant of the surfaces where you walk without any shoes or slippers to avoid these.
-
Wash feet daily
Good foot hygiene starts with washing your feet every day with water and soap. Drying them thoroughly will also help prevent foot odors and any fungi or bacteria buildup. Always take the time to wash in between each toe and the sole of the foot to remove all the dirt that may have been there.
-
Moisturize
After washing, moisturizing the feet will help keep it smooth all throughout the seasons. If the feet aren’t moisturized well, these may lead to cracked heels. Cracked heels are both an unsightly condition and can lead to other concerns if not treated immediately. With a small helping of lotion, you can avoid all these and keep your soles and heels crack-free.
-
Exercise
Exercise is an easy and effective way to keep not just yourself healthy, but your feet as well. Experts have mentioned that even a few minutes of walking per day improves the flexibility and strength in the foot, reducing the risk of injury. Apart from walking, if mobility is a concern, there are also flexibility and resistance exercises you can try while sitting down.
The foot goes through a lot in our lives and taking our time to create good foot hygiene ensures that our experience of using them every day will not change. Foot care should be an essential part of your routine year-round and with it, you are one step closer to a healthier lifestyle. Pun intended.
